Drohobych State Pedagogical University (DDPU) is a highly professional educational institution located in the picturesque city of Drohobych at the foothills of the Carpathians in Lviv Region. Founded in 1940, the university has earned a respected reputation thanks to its rich history both in the Ukrainian educational environment and in the international community.

The historical vocation of the University is to train teachers for the national school. History of Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University

On April 15, 1940, the Drohobych Teachers’ Institute began its work with history, geography, language and literature faculties. In 1952, the institute was reorganized into pedagogical, and in 1954 it was named after Ivan Franko.

In 1960, the Drohobych Pedagogical Institute was merged with the Lviv Pedagogical Institute, which significantly expanded its capabilities. Over time, new faculties appeared: foreign languages, music education, management and marketing, biology, physical education, social sciences and humanities.

On September 4, 1998, Drohobych Pedagogical Institute received the status of a university.

Today, it is a modern university with 5 faculties, 26 departments, with a student body of over five thousand.
