On October 30, 2024 a round table on the topic “Possibilities and features of the PhD programs in Europe and the USA” within the course “Modern information technologies in scientific activity” was held at the Faculty of Physics, Mathematics, Economics and Innovative Technologies. The event was organized by Associate Professor Roman Paziuk, candidate of physics-mathematical sciences, Department of Physics and Information Systems and the first-year post-graduate students.
The participants discussed various aspects of admission to PhD programs and the study process itself, including the skills and competencies necessary for successful education abroad. The speakers paid special attention to the requirements for scientific programs in the USA and certain European countries, such as Poland, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Spain and France and the possibilities of implementing individual research trajectories while studying in different countries with subsequent career paths — from academic activities to work in industry and consulting. They stressed the importance of mastering foreign languages, especially English, for scientific communication at the international level.
The meeting helped graduate students to better understand the requirements and opportunities associated with PhD programs in the USA and Europe as well as to compare them with Ukrainian standards of post-graduate studies. Studying abroad can be an important step for professional and personal growth, and the skills acquired during such programs significantly increase the chances of a successful career in scientific and practical activities.
The reports of post-graduate students Anhelina Razumna, Oleksiy Boshko, Nazar Khomyak and Ivan Dashynych were of interest in terms of content and form of presentation of information. It testifies to a conscious choice of young scientists and their already formed public speaking skills.
