The Department of the German and French Languages and Methods of Their Teaching was established in 2022 on the basis of merging of the Department of the German Language Practice and the Department of Romance Philology and Comparative Studies of the former Institute of Foreign Languages.
In general, the specialty The German Language and Literature has existed at the university since 1963, and the specialty The French Language and Literature – since 1967.

The Department of the German and French Languages and Methods of Their Teaching provides instruction in theoretical and practical disciplines of German and French philology at all levels of higher education.
In its teaching activities, the department staff guarantees that its students acquire knowledge by combining traditional and modern educational technologies, including the use of modern teaching aids, multimedia, and authentic textbooks.
On the international arena, the department has signed partnership agreements with 6 universities: Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Graz, Linz (Austria) and Greifswald (Germany), which allows students to study abroad in parallel under the Erasmus+ academic mobility program.
Extracurricular activities are provided by two scientific circles operating at the department, as well as cultural cooperation with the Austrian Library and the Centre for Ukrainian-Austrian Cooperation.
