On December 10, the Faculty of Educational Sciences, the Institute of Psychosocial Intervention and Communication Research at the University of Innsbruck hosted a binary lecture “Pedagogical Practices in Preschools in Ukraine under Conditions of War: Challenges and Opportunities” with the participation of scientists from Ukraine: Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Oresta Karpenko from Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Olena Hnizdilova from Korolenko Poltava National Pedagogical University. The main idea of the lecture is that high-quality preschool education is a necessary condition for the full development of children and formation of their personal potential. It contributes to forming cognitive, social, emotional and physical competencies necessary for the successful adaptation of a child to the conditions of a dynamic society and overcoming modern challenges.
In times of war, preschool education becomes particularly important as a means of ensuring the continuity of the educational process and as a tool for psychosocial support for children, aimed at minimizing the negative consequences of traumatic events. The audience (students and teachers) had the opportunity to get acquainted with innovative approaches to organizing the educational process in preschool education institutions in Ukraine, in particular, using interactive methods and psycho correctional programs aimed at developing emotional regulation and social skills in children.
This event was part of a large-scale research project “Quality of Training of Preschool Teachers in Austria and Ukraine”, which brings together scientists from both countries: Ukraine (Prof. Oresta Karpenko, Prof. Maria Chepil, Prof. Olena Hnizdilova) and Austria (Prof. Wilfried Schmidt, Dr. Eva-Maria Embacher and Dr. Tina Eckstein-Madry). The goal of the project is to identify strengths and potential areas for improving the system of training specialists in preschool education.
