On the occasion of Ivan Franko’s Day, the Ukrainian Institute (Slovakia) held a presentation of the monograph by Yaroslav Lopushansky “Videnska Frankiana: Studies, Doctorate, Academic Environment of Ivan Franko at the University of Vienna (1892–1893)”. Yaroslav Lopushansky is a candidate of philological sciences, associate professor at the Department of the English Language and Translation at Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University and director of the Austrian Library in Drohobych.
The monograph covers in detail the period of Slavic studies and obtaining the Doctor of Philosophy degree as well as the academic environment of Ivan Franko in Vienna in 1892-1893. The research is based on materials from the archives of the University of Vienna, the Austrian State Archives, and the Department of Manuscript Funds and Textology of the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. All documents, many of which are published for the first time, are presented in German transliteration with respect for the spelling and lexical features of the originals and in Ukrainian translations with historical and literary comments.
Organizers of the event were the FreeArt creative project with the support of ColorWay EU, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Institute in Slovakia.
The event was attended by guests interested in Franko’s life and work.
After the presentation, the participants had a lively discussion about interesting facts.
