On January 13, 2026, Shiin Ji Kang, a professor at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, USA gave the 5th online lecture, “Global Citizenship Education: What, Why, How,” for bachelor’s and master’s degree students.
The lecturer focused on three key aspects of the topic: the essence of global citizenship education, its relevance in the face of global challenges, and practical approaches to its implementation in the educational process. For students it was an opportunity to understand the concept of global citizenship in a modern world under constant social, political, and cultural transformation.
Shiin Ji Kang shared international experience, analytical approaches, and examples of real-world educational practices that demonstrate how education can foster responsible thinking, intercultural sensitivity, and active citizenship. Particular attention was paid to the role of educators in nurturing young people who are capable of thinking globally and acting responsibly on the local level.
The lecture generated keen interest and active discussion among the participants.
