DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC THEORY AND INSTRUMENTAL TRAINING

The training is aimed at the creative and performing aspect of the development of a musician and instrumentalist as a future teacher of music. The key attention is focused on instrumental and performing training of students and its activation through the prism of participation in competitions and festivals, concerts and presentations, lectures, recitals, solemn academies dedicated to prominent figures of musical art, etc.

In September 2022, in connection with the reorganization of the university’s structural subdivisions, the Educational and Research Institute of Musical Art and the Faculty of Primary and Art Education were reorganized into the Faculty of Primary Education and Art. The Department of Folk Musical Instruments and Vocal Performance and the Department of Musicology and Piano were also reorganized into the Department of Music Theory and Instrumental Training.

The current department consists of two sections:

  • instrumental training (headed by V. Salij, Ph. D in Pedagogy, Associate Professor);
  • pianists, concert masters and theorists (headed by N. Storonska, Ph. D in Arts, Associate Professor).

SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH WORK

One of the priority tasks of the department is the scientific activity of teachers and students. Teachers and students are the authors of publications that are aimed both at the educational process and at expanding the horizons of knowledge while making monographs, handbooks, teaching aids, repertory collections, scientific and journalistic articles, etc.

Key areas of scientific research include:

  • Creativity for folk instruments by Ukrainian and foreign composers.
  • Folk instrumental art at the turn of the 20th – 21st centuries.
  • Musical art of the 21st century, its history, theory, practice.
  • Problems of piano art.


The department operates scientific professional collection “category B” in the field of pedagogical sciences and culture and art “Current issues of humanitarian sciences: interuniversity collection of scientific works of young scientists of Ivan Franko Drohobytsk State Pedagogical University” (co-founder and co-editor A. Dushny); a collection of scientific works “Musical art of the 21st century, its history, theory, practice” (editor A. Dushny).

The teachers of the department actively cooperate with educational institutions, art organizations and scientific institutions of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, France, Great Britain, Kazakhstan.
