The educational programmes have been modernised in accordance with the new standards, in which 65% of the disciplines provide students with special (professional) competences. Practical classes with students are held in the laboratories of the newly created training and practical centre with modern equipment for occupational therapy and physical therapy, purchased with funds from the European Union through the university’s participation in the international Erasmus+ UKROTHE project “Creating a new educational programme in occupational therapy”.
Students undergo 54 credits of clinical practice in physical therapy and occupational therapy (36 weeks – 1/6 of the total duration of the study) at practice sites in Ukraine and abroad: Modrychi Rehabilitation Centre (Truskavets), Western Rehabilitation and Sports Centre of the National Committee for Sports for the Disabled of Ukraine, Professor Kozyavkin’s International Rehabilitation Clinic, the Rehabilitation Department of Drohobych City Hospital No. 1, foreign rehabilitation centres AXIS and ADELI (Slovakia), SAREMA (Czech Republic) and others.
The Faculty of Human Health and Natural Sciences actively cooperates with the Belgian University of Applied Sciences VIVES (Belgium) and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (Portugal). For several years in a row, our students have been studying at the VIVES University of Applied Sciences (Bruges, Belgium).
The scientific interests of the teachers are aimed at developing scientific and methodological principles of physical therapy and occupational therapy in the rehabilitation process of people with disabilities due to diseases, injuries or congenital pathology, in order to improve their functioning, independence, integration into society and ensure an adequate level of quality of life. The teaching staff studies the world experience of providing rehabilitation care to people with disabilities and health limitations; highlights the areas of therapeutic influence of rehabilitation therapists, physical therapists and occupational therapists in the rehabilitation and recovery process; explores the role of the latest technologies in the field of physical therapy and occupational therapy.
Based on the results of their research, the department’s researchers publish scientific and educational products (textbooks, manuals, methodological materials, articles in professional and foreign publications, articles with citation indexes in the Copernicus, Web of Science, Scopus scientometric databases), and test students’ scientific ideas.
Teachers of the department participate in academic mobility within the framework of the International Erasmus+ KA2 project “Developing an Occupational Therapy study programme in Ukraine” (Erasmus+ programme No. 609589-EPP-1-2019-1-BE-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP).
