The university visited by Mufti Sheikh Said Ismahilov

On March 6, 2017 the auditorium of the main building of the university hosted Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Ummah”, the head of the Ukrainian Center of Islamic Studies, Sheikh Said Ismahilov, who gave a lecture “Islam and Muslims of Ukraine: the History and the Present”. The project called “Itinerant Museum and Toleration Center” implemented by NGO “AREKET” is supported by the Ukrainian regional public initiative platform, administered by the NGO “Center of Women’s Perspectives” funded by the European Union.

The lecture was introduced by the Rector Professor Nadiya Skotna, who underlined the importance of following the traditions of peaceful society, intercultural and inter-religious co-existence and mutual respect.

In his lecture, Sheikh Said Ismahilov dwelled on the history of Islam in Ukraine, especially its development and formation in the environment of other religious communities and cultures. At the end the mufti answered the questions of the audience.

Sheikh Said Ismahilov (Serhiy V. Ismahilov) – Mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Ukraine “Ummah”, one of the Muslim spiritual leaders of Ukraine, President of NGO “Ukrainian Centre of Islamic Studies”, Chairman of the Muslim community “Nur” of Donetsk, a member of the Donetsk city public organization “Al-Amal. ” Ukrainian scholar of Islam, a member of the Donetsk regional department of Ukrainian Association of Religious Studies, a member of the Center of Religious Investigations and International Spiritual Relations, a member of the Council of Churches and Religious Organizations of Donetsk Region, lecturer of theology and religion at the Ukrainian Islamic University (2001 – 2002), a well-known public figure.

He considers his main task to be the education of the Muslims of Ukraine as an integral part of the Ukrainian society.
