Meeting with a famous Crimean Tatar activist Gulnara Bekirova

On April 19, 2017 the University faculty and students met a renowned historian, the author and host of the historical program “Tarikh sedasi” (“Echoes of the Past”) on ATR Channel Gulnara Bekirova. The theme of the lecture “The national liberation struggle of the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians in the 20th century” evoked a great interest among the faculty and students of the departments of history an social studies and humanities who not only could hear a lot of new and interesting facts from the history of the Crimean Tatars, but also participate in the debate. The moderator of the event Prof. Leonid Tymoshenko stressed the importance and urgency of this issue today.

The lecture of Gulnara Bekirova was held within the project called “Traveling Museum and Tolerance Center” of the “Areket” NGO, supported by the Ukrainian regional platform of public initiatives administered by the “Women’s Perspectives Center” NGO funded by the European Union.

Addressing the audience, Gulnara Bekirova noted that the issue of participation of the Ukrainians in the national liberation struggle of the Crimean Tatar people had been scarcely explored and therefore was promising for young historians and political scientists.
