On October 12, 2022, an international delegation representing the teachers’ unions led by the Head of the Lviv regional organization of the Union of Teachers and Science Workers of Ukraine Maria Yatseyko paid a visit to the university dormitory No.5. The delegation included Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers; representatives of the American Federation of Teachers Michael Rowell, Andrew Crook, Patricia Kiefer; Dorota Obidniak, deputy head of the Polish Teachers’ Union; Rudy Porter, regional director of the AFL-CIO Solidarity Center and Irwin and Karen Redlener, co-founders of the “Ukraine Children’s Action Project”.

The guests were met by the University Rector Professor Valentyna Bodak, Vice-rector for international relations and information activities Ihor Hrynyk, Head of the University Teachers’ Union Committee Olena Kutsyk, Head of the Students’ Union Committee Ihor Hivchak and other university officials.

The choice of the university dormitory was not accidental because the delegation came to see the living conditions of internally displaced persons, to find out their needs and wishes. The visitors had the opportunity to talk with the teachers who had left their native homes due to the influx of muscovites. They heard tragic stories of difficult escape, forced transfer and settling in a hostel.

The guests also inspected Dormitory No.1, the state of repair work being carried out there, and inquired about the needs for furnishing living rooms. And they also promised to help to repair the university dormitory under renovation.

In the end, the visitors expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, wished the internally displaced persons good health, a peaceful sky and a speedy return to their homes, and also expressed support for Ukrainians in the fight against the russian hordes.
