On April 29, 2017 the 10th International Contest of Bayan Accordion Players «Perpetuum mobile» started (directed by Assoc. Prof. Andriy Dushnyi, artistic director – Assoc. Prof. Bohdan Pyts). Director of Barvinskyi Musical College in Drohobych Yuri Chumak, director of the Institute of Musical Arts, Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University in Drohobych, Prof. Stepan Datsyuk, a world-known composer, Honored Artist of Ukraine Vladimir Zubytsky, People’s Artist of Ukraine Doctor of Arts, Professor of folk instruments A. Nyezhdanova Music Academy in Odessa, Ivan Yergiyev gave welcoming speeches to the guests and participants.

This year, the jury evaluated the performance skills of musicians who have come from Belarus, Serbia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and, of course – from all over Ukraine. Contest was held in seven categories, covering solo, ensemble and orchestral playing.

Along with contest auditions the Second International scientific conference “Musical art of the XXI century – History, Theory, Practice” was held, the materials of which have been published in a collection of works. Professor Mykola Davydov, Doctor of Arts, Tchaikovsky National Music Academy, gave the lecture on the “Intellectual potential of creative personality”; Prof. Yergiev held a workshop in methodology.

A great interest and enthusiasm was aroused by the concerts of talented youth (Roman Sapuntsov, Vitaliy Saliy, Olexiy Murza, Milos Stoimenov, Egle Bartkeviciute, orchestra of folk instruments under Roman Stakhniv) and famous virtuosos of accordion art (Volodymyr, Natalia and Stanislav Zubytsky, Ivan Yergiyev, Vladyslav Plihovka, Dmitro Zharikov, Mykola Rizol bayan quartet).

Contest ended on May 3, 2017 with awarding the winners and a concert of the laureates, which once again showed the credibility of the jury and the talents of a new generation of musicians. And the event was a vivid artistic phenomenon for Drohobych and Ukraine in general.
