A wide variety of research in both theoretical and experimental physics and methods of teaching physics is carried out at the Department of Physics. The fields of research include the traditional ones, such as: solid state physics (condensed matter physics), semiconductor physics and also the recently developed new areas, such as: laser physics and nanotechnology, and the interdisciplinary fields, such as: biophysics, environmental science and computer physics.

The main scientific results, obtained by the Department of Physics:
For the first time in the world, were synthesized of the solid solutions of semiconductors Cd1-xHgxTe;
For the first time the phenomenon of negative photoconductivity in crystals of solid solutions CdTe – ZnTe was studied experimentally;
For the first time, the regularities of photoelectric state formation under the action of an external field and its destruction in high-impedance photosensitive AІІBVI semiconductors have been established.
For the first time in solid solutions of Cd1-xHgxTe the magnetophonon resonance was experimentally detected on the difference of phonons belonging to different modes of this crystal.
Current scientific projects:
- The formation of the superlattice of adsorbed atoms in semiconductors with a zinc blast structure in electric and mechanical fields (2019 – 2021, registration number 0119U100667);
- New nanocomposite polymer matrices for prototyping bioreactors and biosensors for elimination and monitoring of xenoestrogens (2019-2021 рр., registration number: 0119U100671)
- Architectonics of active environments of elements of light-emitting systems: properties, hierarchical and interface self-organization (2020– 2022, registration number 0120U102217).
- Dependence of operating parameters of amperometric biosensors on structural and morphological characteristics of new polymer composites as bio selective membranes (2020-2022 рр., registration number: 0120U102224)
- Photopolymer matrices and nanocarriers in the design of biosensors for monitoring the state of the environment and quality of water (2021-2023 рр., registration number: 0121U109539
