The institute was founded in 1997 and consists of 4 departments : Department of theory and methods of Physical Training, Department of Human Health and Physical Rehabilitation, Department of sport disciplines and tourism, Department of Physical Training.

The teaching and educational process provide members of scientific and teaching personnel. Among them, there are 3 members with Doctor’s degrees, professors, 19 candidates of sciences, associate professors, 21 lecturers.

Institute graduates can work as teachers of physical training in secondary and vocational education institutions, specialists in physical rehabilitation, physical therapists, ergotherapists, specialists in the organization of leisure time, instructors of wellness and sports tourism, masseurs and guides.Students form the basis of national teams that became champions of Lviv and Ukraine in football, athletics, basketball, volleyball,wrestling, badminton, kickboxing and others. Our students are also multiple winners of European and World Championships and Cups in many sports. There is a school of football referees.
